What do Jews look like? The Oregonian informs.
Oy! On the first day of Passover, I opened Oregon’s newspaper of record to find this example of photo journalism gone wrong.
The headline reads, “Jews gather to bless the sun”. Pictured are Shmuel, Shimey, Menachem, and others engaged in prayer. The text doesn’t mention it, but they are Lubavitchers (a sub-sect of the small Hassidic sect). Instead, the men (no women, of course, these are Hasidim) are twice simply referred to as “Jews”. I don’t have a problem with the Hasidic. God love ‘em. But, representative of Jews in Portland? Or of Jews anywhere outside of Williamsburg, Brooklyn? Not.
But if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. And so to be helpful, I thought I’d offer this photo to the big O to run on Sunday. Christians gather to prepare for Easter:

To each his own opinion: But the comment on this picture are misleading at best and simply wrong factually. 1. The “blessing of the sun” a once in twenty-eight year occurrence was sponsored by Kesser Israel a long established Orthodox congregation as well as Chabad Lubavitch of Oregon, established in Oregon for over 20 years, It is not a “sub sect of a small Hasidic sect but the 2nd largest Hasidic group in the world. 2. the Origonian reporter (with a Scandinavian name with out back ground took pictures No one stopped him from taking pictures of the many women there, more than a few non Hadidic and several Gentiles. The newspaper took the picture that looked the most different showing soberly dressed men. The woman looked like any group of Oregon women. So you don’t like religious people fine…very unethical writing. Are you just a wise guy or a bigot?
