(a)
All sheriffs, undersheriffs, assistant sheriffs, chief deputy sheriffs, captains, lieutenants, sergeants, jailers, turnkeys, deputy sheriffs, bailiffs, constables, deputy constables, motorcycle officers, aircraft pilots, detectives, and investigators in the office of the district attorney, and marshals and all regularly appointed deputy marshals, who are first so employed on or after the operative date of this section in a county, are eligible. This section is an alternative to Section 31470.2.(b)
This section shall apply only in a county of the second class, as defined by Sections 28020 and 28023, as amended by Chapter 1204 of the Statutes of 1971.(c)
This section shall not be operative in a county unless and until the board of supervisors, by resolution adopted by a majority vote, makes this section operative in that county.
