Authorization


(a)

Subject to Subsection (b), a school district may be designated as a district of innovation in accordance with this chapter.

(b)

A school district is eligible for designation as a district of innovation only if the district’s most recent performance rating under Section 39.054 (Methods and Standards for Evaluating Performance) reflects at least acceptable performance.

(c)

Consideration of designation as a district of innovation may be initiated by:

(1)

a resolution adopted by the board of trustees of the district; or

(2)

a petition signed by a majority of the members of the district-level committee established under Section 11.251 (Planning and Decision-making Process).
